ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 23 // -- The Great Lakes Entrepreneurs
Quest (GLEQ) will host an "Entrepreneurs Roundtable on Business
Commercialization" on Tuesday, March 28 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the NextEnergy
Center at TechTown in Detroit as a part of its statewide program for
entrepreneurs. NextEnergy will co-sponsor the event as the first in several
collaboration projects planned in the growing partnership between the
organizations.
Rich Sheridan, President and CEO of Menlo Innovations, will facilitate the
roundtable discussion covering issues confronting new and start-up companies.
The dramatic success of Menlo captured the attention of Forbes magazine, where
Rich appeared on the cover in May, 2003. He was named one of the top 100
emerging business leaders of the Metro-Detroit region by the Detroiter
magazine. Rich was also recently named as one of the PMI Power 50, the
nations 50 most prolific leaders in project management as selected by the
Project Management Institute. He has been a finalist in the Ernst & Young
Entrepreneur of the Year program in 2004 and 2005. Rich, along with his
business partners, formed Menlo Innovations around the passions of building
great software and great software teams. He has sponsored dramatic changes to
existing teams using techniques from many sources, including The Fifth
Discipline, Alan Cooper and Extreme Programming.
The roundtable discussion will focus on the business commercialization
process from prototype through beta testing to market adoption. Rich will
relate his start-up commercialization experiences and facilitate feedback,
insights and recommendations of specific issues related by participating
entrepreneurs from the group.

As President and CEO of Menlo Innovations, Rich Sheridan, along with his
business partners, formed a company around the passions of building great
software and great software teams. He has sponsored dramatic changes to
existing teams using techniques from many sources, including The Fifth
Discipline, Alan Cooper and Extreme Programming. He has focused on improving
the culture, productivity and results of teams with which he works. His
experiences as the Vice President of R&D at Interface Systems were captured in
the book "Creativity at Work" by Jeff DeGraff and Katherine Lawrence of the
University of Michigan Business School. It came at a time when Interface
Systems was named the #1 public company in Michigan. Rich is a graduate of the
University of Michigan where he received a BS in the Computer Science Honors
Program and a Masters Degree in Computer Engineering.

lab in Menlo Park, New Jersey was the inspiration for the company name. The

About the Great Lakes Entrepreneurs Quest (GLEQ)
The GLEQ is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational program designed to
accelerate the formation of high-growth companies across Michigan. Anyone who
lives, works or attends school in Michigan can participate in the competitions
and educational programs at no cost.
The GLEQ sponsors a statewide business plan competition with a deadline
for registration on April 15th and business plan submission on May 15th, 2006.
The Quest is structured into two distinct maturity "paths": companies with
more developed businesses compete in the Emerging Company (EC) path while
teams with new or less developed business ideas compete in the New Business
Ideas (NBI) path.
The EC teams must complete and submit an 8 to 12 page business plan, while
the NBI teams must develop and submit a five-page executive summary describing
their business or business idea. The GLEQ provides the assistance of coaches
and educational programs to help all entrepreneurs with their business plans.
Cash and in-kind awards are provided to the EC and NBI winners.
The GLEQ is currently sponsored by the Ann and Carmen Adams Fund of the
Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan, Wayne State University, Apjohn
Group, Southwest Michigan First, Ann Arbor SPARK and Lambert, Edwards &

Founded in 2000, the GLEQ has provided over $800,000 in contributed
services from volunteer coaches, educators, judges and in-kind sponsors. It

businesses within the state of Michigan.
