JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 28 // -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield
of Florida (BCBSF) announced today that it has received federal approval
for its 2007 Medicare Part D prescription drug plan options. BCBSF will
offer three different BlueMedicare Rx Part D plans, including a new
lower-cost option, to all Medicare-eligible Floridians statewide beginning
Jan. 1, 2007.

BlueMedicare Rx Part D plans are available to Medicare beneficiaries
whether they are enrolled in Medicare supplemental or Medicare Advantage
managed care plans, or choose to remain with standard Medicare for their
medical coverage. In addition to the new lower-cost option, BCBSF has
reduced premiums and co-pays for the existing BlueMedicare Rx plans for
2007.
"The introduction of a new lower-cost option to our BlueMedicare Rx
Part D plans reinforces Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Floridas leadership
in the Medicare program," said Barbara Benevento, group vice president of
senior programs, BCBSF. "By adding to our already extensive product
offerings, we are providing Florida Medicare beneficiaries with more and
better options than they have ever had before."
Part D is providing Medicare beneficiaries with much needed
prescription drug coverage for the first time in Medicares 40-plus year
history. BCBSF is participating in this program to provide Floridians with
enhanced access to medications and is assisting beneficiaries in navigating
Medicare Part D and other aspects of Medicare through the current
transition period and beyond.
