Eastern State Penitentiarys Terror Behind the Walls Launches a Haunted
Attraction Lit Only By Flashlights
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 28 // -- Eastern State Penitentiarys
massive haunted house, Terror Behind the Walls presented by LUKOIL, will
introduce an all-new attraction for the 2006 season, Night Watch. This
section of the 177-year-old prison will be lit only by the flashlights in
the visitors hands.
Visitors will be given flashlights before they enter the attraction
(they may not bring their own), and broken into groups of two or four. They
will be left to explore the space on their own. While there are some
startling surprises waiting for them, its the raw, disturbing atmosphere
of Eastern State Penitentiary that will make the experience unsettling.
"There is nothing as scary as Eastern State Penitentiary in the dark,"
said Program Director Sean Kelley. "We realized that what scares us, the
staff, is walking through the empty prison alone with a flashlight. Its
terrifying."
There have been dozens of real ghost sightings at Eastern State
Penitentiary. The site has been featured on The Sci-Fi Channels "Ghost
Hunters," MTVs "FEAR," and FOX Networks "Worlds Scariest Places." Video

Terror Behind the Walls has been ranked Number 5 Best Haunted House in
America by America Online, and called "perfect for Halloween" by The New
York Times. Five separate haunted attractions are included in the admission
price.
The event runs on select evenings from September 22 to October 31,
2006. Reservations are highly recommended for weekends in October.
All proceeds benefit Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site, a
National Historic Landmark. The haunted attraction does not affect
operation of the historic site, which remains open for daytime tours seven
