- Novak Biddle Venture Partners Provides Seed Financing to Promising
Network Security Company -
MCLEAN, Va., April 17 // -- Computer network security
software provider Revive Systems, Inc. today announced it has secured $2
million in financing from Novak Biddle Venture Partners, the Greater
Washington, DC regions preeminent early stage, information technology
venture capital firm. Revive Systemss patent-pending technology
dramatically reduces the risk of potential damage caused by computer worms
and malicious activity by automatically creating fixes for previously
unknown vulnerabilities. The funding will be used to support the companys
software development and marketing efforts. Revive Systems, a Columbia
University technology transfer effort, was founded in December 2005.
"Revive Systems is unique in that it took an unconventional approach to
network security; rather than build another network fence or firewall, it
created a sophisticated system that heals itself from malicious attacks,"
said Roger Novak, co-founding partner, Novak Biddle Venture Partners and
Revive Systems board member. "Given the unparalleled technology, expansive
target customer base in the commercial and government sectors, and the
experienced management team, we see tremendous potential for this company,"
Novak added.
Revive Systemss "self-healing" software technology detects and
isolates the activities of a worm or other malicious activity, identifies
the software vulnerability that is being exploited, then automatically
creates, tests, and implements the most effective patch for the software.
Currently, the customers only choice is to wait up to two months for a
vendor to issue a patch designed to eliminate the software vulnerability.
Revive Systems technology reduces this often months-long window of
vulnerability down to minutes.
"Studies show that in 2003, viruses and worms cost companies more than
$12 billion and that more than ten new software vulnerabilities are
discovered every day. By improving the security and reliability of servers
and network applications, our technology is a lifeline for the information
security professionals who have spent the last decade fixing their networks
and software applications," said Loren Burnett, president and CEO, Revive
Systems, Inc. "We are very pleased to have Novak Biddle as a venture
partner given their industry expertise, technology transfer experience, and
close familiarity with government agencies. Their insights will be
invaluable as we engage in rapid growth over the next twelve to eighteen
months," Burnett added.
The Revive Systems management team has nearly five decades of
experience and success in investing, growing and managing technology and IT
security companies. President and CEO, Loren Burnett, and CTO, Robert
Stratton, have managed or created security businesses at such firms as
RipTech (now Symantec), UUNET, and WheelGroup (now Cisco Systems). Drs.
Angelos Keromytis and Sal Stolfo, of Columbia University, the creators of
the Revive Systems technology, lead the Advisory Board.
