An English-speaking, British Dependant Territory, the Turks
and Caicos are a group of eight islands and 40 small cays
(pronounced "keys") located 575 miles southeast of Miami
(about 90 minutes by air). The Bahamas are about 30 miles to
the northwest and the Dominican Republic is 100 miles to the
southeast.
Situated on the west side of the Caicos archipelago,
Providenciales has an area of 38 square miles. Prior to
1960, the island had a population of 500. Today, it has the
largest population and contains the largest native and
nonnative population in Turks & Caicos. Development of
Providenciales began in 1966 when the Turks and Caicos
Government and the British Government made a lease-purchase
agreement with Provident Ltd. allowing them to lease 4000
acres of Crown Land.
Grand Turk is the political capital of the islands and is
noted for Columbus landing there in 1492 during his first
quest for the New World.
Providenciales (Provo) is the most well known of the
islands and features first-class accommodations along 12
miles of powdery white beach. The other islands include Salt
Cay, North, Middle and South Caicos, Parrot Cay and Pine
Cay.
Beautiful beaches are scattered on all sides of
Providenciales, the most spectacular of which is a 12 mile
stretch located on Grace Bay, which is protected by a
healthy barrier reef.
The Turks and Caicos average 350 days of sunshine per year.
The tropical climate and cool island breezes are comfortable
year round. Temperatures range from 80 to 90 degrees
Fahrenheit. Water temperatures rarely dip below 74 degrees.
This caring island community of about 25,000 friendly
locals and internationals is located halfway between Florida
and Puerto Rico, and only a ninety minute, non-stop jet
flight from Miami. For any individual questions or to discuss your requirements in more detail please contact us.
