Midwests Premier Equity Event to be Held May 15-16, 2007 at the Marriott
Resort at Eagle Crest
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 7 // -- The Stephen M. Ross School of
Business at the University of Michigan and its Center for Venture Capital
and Private Equity Finance of the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial
Studies, today unveiled preliminary details for its 26th Annual Midwest
equity event. The 2007 Michigan Growth Capital Symposium (MGCS), which
fuels Midwest economic development and growth, will be held May 15-16, 2007
at the Marriott Resort at Eagle Crest.
MGCS is the premier event where financiers connect with the "Best of
the Midwest" in new businesses and emerging technologies. First held in
1979, the Symposium is the longest running program of its kind, and brings
together investors from across the country with Midwestern entrepreneurs
and related stakeholders for two days of company presentations, world class
panel discussions and networking.
Since its inception, the Symposium has served as a catalyst to raise
the visibility of venture investment and entrepreneurial success in
Michigan and the Midwest region. The 2007 event will feature a carefully
screened group of 40 companies representing industries ranging from
information technology, life sciences and alternative energy, which will
present for an audience of venture capitalists, angel investors and
institutional investors. These companies represent high potential deals in
the Midwest seeking their initial investment, a first institutional
investment or expansion financing. Panel topics in 2007 will explore trends
in the Midwest and coastal venture capital investment, as well as emerging
business and technology topics.
"A research-rich environment, the Midwest region is brimming with
economic and entrepreneurial activity," said Stephen M. Ross School of
Business Professor and Zell Lurie Institute Director Thomas C. Kinnear.
"MGCS remains critical to providing visibility into the regions countless
ventures in high- profile and cutting-edge industries. The Symposium
connects emerging businesses with the broader financial community, and
dually provides investors with the opportunity for insight on potential
Midwest investments."
Keynote speakers and premier panelists for the 26th annual event will
be announced in the first quarter of 2007. Investment visionaries who have
presented at past MGCS events include: Geoffrey Duyk M.D., Ph.D., managing
director of Palo Alto, Calif.-based Texas Pacific Group Ventures; Tim
Draper, founder and managing director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson; David M.
Rubenstein, founding partner and managing director of Carlyle Group; and
Promod Haque, managing partner of Norwest Venture Partners.
"When MGCS was first conceived in 1979, the goal was to create an event
that would bridge the coastal gap and raise awareness for the myriad
investment opportunities in the Midwest, a goal from which it has never
wavered," said Dr. David Brophy, founder of the MGCS and director of the
Center for Venture Capital and Private Equity Finance. "We expect that this
years event will continue to drive entrepreneurial activity in the region
and bring visibility from both coasts."
The MGCS is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. followed by a
reception and dinner on May 15, and from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on May 16.
Registration is $395 per person through May 1, 2007, after which the
standard registration rate of $495 will apply. For more information on
